What I plan to do in 2013…

January 1, 2013 4 comments

2012 has been the best year in my life so far, it was the best…ever.

I am thinking about raising the bar for myself in 2013, putting some clear goals in front of my eyes will help me score my self by 2014, this blog will be a placeholder for those goals to keep reminding myself with them.

Personal:

- Lose some weight, at least 10 Kg, aiming for 15 or 20 Kg. < Started, and lost some weight but I don’t know how much

- Gain some muscle back. < Started

- pushing my wife into the decoration BA.

On Career:

- MBA – But I don’t think I will go for it this year, maybe in 2014.

- Complete the CCEE < Will book the Exam Next Month

- Go for the CCIA.

- Go through ITIL certificate (as long as my company will put me into the ITIL training).

- Go for the TOGAF certificate. < Started but the Study guide is the most boring thing ever

- Complete MCSE Certificate (Private Cloud, Exchange 2013 and Lync 2013).

- Go through the CCIE Data Center Video training, I won’t go for the exam, at least this year.

- Go Through the Cisco UCS training. Will start this one today, but I am so lazy to go to the garage to bring my headset.

- Complete the Exchange 2013 Arabic Training video series.

- Complete Office 365 lab, maybe doing Arabic videos as well.

- Publish another book. Working with PackT on the new title.

- keep the MVP and BExpert certificates. I am thinking about changing my MVP track, not sure.

- Complete the documentation automation script, the one we use at the work.

- Auh, complete the 3PAR training I didn’t finish it in 2012.

let us see how I will do by the end of 2013…

google celebrates Abu Rayhan El Biyruni’s Birth #Google #Arabia #Egypt #Qatar

I was surprised today with Google’s home pages on .eg and .qa domains “I believe it will be the same for all arabic domains” with the celebration of his birth.

He was a famous scientist and known with his findings and research in math and astronomy and physics “apparently he didn’t catch up the cloud hype Open-mouthed smile back in our golden era.

Birthday of Abu Rayhan Al-Biruni

Al-Biruni is regarded as one of the greatest scholars of the medieval Islamic era and was well versed in physics, mathematics, astronomy, and natural sciences, and also distinguished himself as a historian, chronologist and linguist.[7] He was conversant in Chorasmian, Persian, Arabic, Sanskrit, and also knew Greek, Hebrew and Syriac. He spent a large part of his life in Ghazni in modern-day Afghanistan, capital of the Ghaznavid dynasty which ruled eastern Iranian lands and the northwestern Indian subcontinent. In 1017 he traveled to the Indian subcontinent and became the most important interpreter of Indian science to the Islamic world. He is given the titles the “founder of Indology” and the “first anthropologist”.[8] He was an impartial writer on custom and creeds of various nations, and was given the title al-Ustdadh (“The Master”) for his remarkable description of early 11th-centuryIndia.[7] He also made contributions to Earth sciences, and is regarded as the “father of geodesy” for his important contributions to that field, along with his significant contributions to geography.

Your Social Presence and Community responsibilities in relation to scams

September 3, 2012 Leave a comment

Social Media usage is increasing dramatically, it is a fact and no one can deny it, even a lot of corporates encaurages Social Media use during work with a lot of recent studies that proves major losses within corporates that ban the use of SM.

But with increased use of SM usage there are lot of security threats that comes within that, a lot of recent scam messages appeared lately on Facebook, and last week I started noticing same scam messages on LinkedIn as well.

not mentioning the security threat associated with those scams for stealing your personal infomration, there are 2 factors captured my attention, 1) your social image, 2) your community responsibilities.

A lot of us uses the social media to enhance his image and demonstrate his expertise within the perimeter of his friends/colleagues and cross the barriers to reach other organizations and professional through out the world, but what will happen to this image and efforts when your friends or connections see you sharing sexual contents, posting inappropriate contents or worst inviting them to do the same or visit specific page that displays those contents.

Of course you are not the one who is posting or sending those messages, it is the damn scam who tricked you to click somewhere and “baaam” all of your contacts and connections are receiving these messages, but don’t you see the risk?.

What will happen if you are trying your best to be a celebrity within your fields and your fans, followers, friends and worst boss gets those, all of your efforts will be gone in vain.

What will happen if you are considered a trustworthy person and started sending those messages and posting those links and your friends and followers started to get infected as well because they trusted you.

In my opinion, there is a specific but unmeasured responsibility for your usage for social media either for fun or professionally, you should be aware that not every message you can post and not every received link you can click, again this is not measured but definitely it is there and you should be aware of that.

I am posting this to all of my friends who are unintentionally sending and posting those spam messages, because it damages your social image and online credibility.

stay safe…

“The Jury Has Spoken” some thoughts about Samsung Vs. Apple from my consumer mind

August 25, 2012 2 comments

Today, The Jury has decided the Samsung stolen some of Apple’s innovations and patents and ordered Samsung to pay Apple more than 1 Billion USD, afterwards Apple’s CEO sent this amazing email:

Today was an important day for Apple and for innovators everywhere.

Many of you have been closely following the trial against Samsung in San Jose for the past few weeks. We chose legal action very reluctantly and only after repeatedly asking Samsung to stop copying our work. For us this lawsuit has always been about something much more important than patents or money. It’s about values. We value originality and innovation and pour our lives into making the best products on earth. And we do this to delight our customers, not for competitors to flagrantly copy.

We owe a debt of gratitude to the jury who invested their time in listening to our story. We were thrilled to finally have the opportunity to tell it. The mountain of evidence presented during the trial showed that Samsung’s copying went far deeper than we knew.

The jury has now spoken. We applaud them for finding Samsung’s behavior willful and for sending a loud and clear message that stealing isn’t right.

I am very proud of the work that each of you do.

Today, values have won and I hope the whole world listens.

Tim

I found the message impressive because it has it all, Apple won because of their effort to create something original, the walked the hall 10,000 miles to create something that is original and not they find it original, they got a court verdict they they are original.

but I am not a philosopher nor business SME, I am a phone consumer and when I decided to buy a phone I found that my phone “Samsung Galaxy SII” was much better phone than it counter iPhone.

The android application are very rich, the phone is awesome and it does what I want, so I appreciate that Apple is original, but what about creating a good phone that really beats the others.

In the Egyptian and gulf market there are a lot of copycat phones from China that mimic Nokia, Apple and Samsung, do they have a market share?, hell not!!!

So why did Samsung got their market share?, it is because they make really good phones, I am not a business SME nor a mobile market expert but Apple; you are original but you need to compete and make good phones that can win.

congrats to Apple I love you being original, but as a consumer I will buy my wife the Samsung Galaxy SIII.

December 6, 2011 Leave a comment

January 2, 2011 2 comments

#mvpbuzz Notes from the field, How to become MVP?

October 15, 2010 Leave a comment

There has been lots of questions and requests online from people asking how to become an MVP, since I have been nominated as an Exchange MVP this round in October, the first question I got after the congrats “I want to be an MVP, how did you do that, how to become an MVP?”

What I will write here is not official statement by Microsoft, but rather a notes from me regarding and what I believe made me an MVP, and suggestion for others on how to become an MVP, what I will write are some thoughts about what I have noted, seen and heard during the last 7 years from/about the MVP  program.

As you all know the MVP is an exclusive club for ITPros, lots of Microsoft consultants and individual are aiming to become  MVPs, what I have seen a lot that there is a lot of people who are not aware with the core and the soul of the program.

The program is about recognizing individuals who demonstrated distinguished Technical experience among their peers in their regions/communities and shared their knowledge with the community and impacting other people with their knowledge.

What I see from people that they don’t understand truly the soul of the award, this is not a technical award and also not a charity award, you have to be very good if not saying exceptional in your technical skills and also shared your knowledge with others.

Due to the reputation of the MVPs and their real value, lots of people are aiming for the award and this is the where the issue rises, they don’t win the awarded.

Well, to be honest I am not 100% why, what I have been told during my interview with our regional MVP lead “also what I have concluded reading more about MVPs and being a one myself J” that Microsoft is not looking to award the MVP title for a person for one year and he gets it and vanishes, Microsoft is looking to award the title to people who have been actively participating in the community activities and also sharing their knowledge and doing that from a somehow time not to get awarded but rather because this is what they believe in.

This looks logical, Microsoft by that will assure that you don’t do those activities just to become and MVP, and this will assure also your continuous work after being an MVP.

For people who are looking to become MVPs please read the following points:

-          Understand what is the MVP award is about, understand it, it is not a technical certificate and not a charity award, it is both.

-          Don’t work to win the award and then stop, show your commitment to the award program by demonstrating your long term intention and plans both technical/community level.

-          If you find that the program goals and vision is what you believe inside yourself start working both technical/community level.

-          Don’t do community activity just to win the award.

-          Don’t expect to win from the first nomination.

-          If you didn’t made it keep doing what you do for the community, you do that because you believe in it, thus the award will come to you one day.

For me, I have been online for the last 8 years, doing activities online/offline, applied several times until awarded, worked extensively online/offline for both community/commercial activities and wooooops it happened J.

I hope that the above notes will guide other individuals who are looking to become MVPs one day in their journey; hopefully we will see more and more MVPs in the upcoming period.
